The theme for Imagine 2014 was ‘Transform’ and Magento/eBay Enterprise have certainly worked on embodying this over the past year with an obvious transformation in the branding – the name Magento was somewhat missing, putting the focus on ‘Imagine Commerce’.
Being ‘unbound’ was the 2015 theme and the ecosystem was encouraged to live this idea of ecommerce without boundaries. This direction captures the Magento community spirit of how an open-source platform lives in symbiosis with the ecosystems of merchants, technologists, and solution providers.
In terms of keynotes and sessions, it was all about enriching the customer experience – going beyond personalization to create a beautiful, seamless guest experience. And it’s the small details that make the difference in providing this. On this, Mr Steve Wynn himself made the connection between his multi-billion dollar casino & hotel properties and Magento – and anyone who has been to his hotels is aware that he knows a little about that ‘guest experience’, especially if you have experienced the ‘all on’ button in the rooms!
We expected to hear about the latest Magento release and we did, with Enterprise Edition 1.14.2 bringing a Braintree payments extension, faster merchandising functionality and Magento mobile SDK. It was also great to see that the community have been heavily contributing for Magento 2 Merchant availability in Q4 2015. Plus, we got an additional pleasant surprise that Magento’s platform has moved up a place to be the Internet Retailer Top 500 platform of choice.
Imagine always provides inspirational and forward thinking speakers who present the near future of ecommerce – providing a hub for the 2500+ thinkers to compile ideas. This year the current trend of interest to the dotmailer team was the B2B commerce customer – specifically, how best to treat them. Peter Sheldon (VP Principle Analyst at Forrester research) reminded us that B2B commerce is innovating / digitizing and will continue to so over the next 5 years in order to meet the expectations of B2B customers of receiving a B2C shopping experience. Flexible solutions are needed – such as the dotmailer platform, catering for both B2B and B2C ecommerce via deep integrations with Magento as well as CRM systems such as Salesforce (see more here).
It’s a nice touch (and keeps us on our toes!) to have the Imagine Excellence Awards ceremony at the conference. We were thrilled to find that over half of the solution and technology partners that were awarded are partners of dotmailer:
