Hotmail vs Firefox

A problem I commonly get asked working in the dotMailer Support team is about the way Firefox handles line breaks as it can be a consistent annoyance for email senders and their recipients.

The issue comes down to the way Firefox/Hotmail interprets the DOCTYPE.

There is a great document published by Mozilla that I like to direct people to so I thought I’d share it:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en/images,_tables,_and_mysterious_gaps

So the solution for all email designers is to add the following piece of code before the opening table tag:

<style>img {display: block;}</style>

By implementing this code we are able to remove the issue of line breaks appearing in your email and goes to show that not only is it email clients which affect how your email campaigns render, but the browser’s chosen by your recipients to log into their email client. The answer as always, is to test test test.
